Trump Calls Relatives of Shot National Guard Members to the White House
Former President Donald Trump stated on the weekend that he has invited the relatives of a National Guard member killed last week to visit the White House.
He noted that he conversed with her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Information on the Tragic Event
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a shooting on last Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her fellow service member, Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in serious condition.
Vigils across the state have occurred in their honor.
White House Invitation
The commander-in-chief stated he’s proposed a visit to the White House for the loved ones of both members of the West Virginia Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” Trump informed reporters. “And in the same way with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Public Response
Attendees assembled over the weekend at the high school in West Virginia to honor Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been working with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to assist public safety in Washington DC.
Paying Tribute to Beckstrom
“Sarah was the individual that educators hoped for. She behaved with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a positive energy that inspired people around her,” Hankins, the principal of her former high school, stated to the Associated Press. “She was sweet, caring and always eager to support those in need.”
Funeral plans for Sarah are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Steps and Government Revisions
Law enforcement have charged a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The incident led the government to halt asylum processing and cease granting visas to owners of travel documents.
Condition of Wolfe
The airman, a resident of the city, began his service in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, according to the news agency.
He remains under medical supervision and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia leader the governor mentioned on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
Attorney general Pam Bondi stated on the program that she planned to meet with his relatives.
Legacy of the Fallen Soldier
Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County high school in June 2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a law enforcement officer with excellence, per the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she absolutely had fortitude,” he informed the audience at the memorial. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has left a mark that’s going to be remembered always.”
