The former Liverpool manager admits rejoining to coach Liverpool is theoretically possible.

Jurgen Klopp, who departed from Liverpool in 2024, remarked that returning someday remains a possibility. The 58-year-old, after a transformative nine-season tenure which brought Champions League success and the Premier League crown for three decades, currently occupies positions in a global football capacity for Red Bull and providing guidance for the DFL.

Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments

They secured the league title under Arne Slot, though countless followers who adore the manager would be thrilled by the idea that he may eventually return. In a wide-ranging interview, he shared with his interviewer: “I said I will never coach any other side in England. Therefore should it be the Reds...absolutely. It's plausible.”

“I’m 58, so the choice could be mine in a few years, who knows. Must I choose now? In that case, I'd stay away. But thank God, it's not necessary. I can just see what the future brings.”

Conditions for a Comeback

Questioned regarding the specific conditions would have to unfold to tempt his return to management, Klopp admitted he feels no immediate pull to such a return. “I'm not entirely sure, I love what I do right now,” he commented. “No longing for management; I avoid standing in the rain for lengthy sessions; I'm glad to skip press conferences repeatedly each week or having 10-12 interviews weekly.

“The locker room isn't missed in that context, but sitting in a restaurant with the players talking freely, I appreciate that. Success was frequent so there was often positive atmosphere around the place. Remaining with me is Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh in my ear for example.”

Commending Arne Slot

Klopp was full of praise of the current boss, acknowledging his role due to the changes which secured the championship last term. The team has suffered a string of losses in every contest following significant transfers, though he denied the suggestion it could be a slump.

“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker like Florian Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if you use the wrong words. A remarkable prospect. Ekitike, superb talent. They have a strong well-judged squad. No need for concern over the club, they will be fine.”

Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota

Klopp also spoke emotionally about the death of Diogo Jota, whom he brought in in 2020, and its impact on Liverpool. Jota lost his life in a car crash alongside his brother this past summer.

“Can you substitute such an individual? It’s not about the player himself, it's his character. I struggle to conceive the team environment absent his presence. Putting it into words is tough about it. A devastating blow for his teammates also. Nobody at Liverpool would cite it to justify results though it's a fact. Entering the changing area where he was omnipresent. Handling this individually is challenging. Impossible.”
