Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation

Arne Slot conceded that it was understandable for concerns to be raised about his position following a further convincing loss against the Dutch champions.

Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, representing the team's poorest run after being demoted in 1953-54.

They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing night at Anfield.

“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received plenty of backing from above,” Slot remarked.

“It would be great to turn it around and get a victory of course but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it is normal that people question you.”

He continued, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we improved our results.”

Discussions with The Board

Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:

“We communicate frequently. They are supportive to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”

He added, “Through standard discussions I feel the confidence. However I've not talked to them since this match yet so we'll see.”

Familiar Problems and Squad Reaction

The manager lamented familiar shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” Jones stated.

“It is unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”

He continued, “It's difficult because I play for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club for years.”

“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a period such as this with results this poor.”

Jones finished, “But we still have the crest on our chest. And as long as it is removed, we will always battle.”

“Our aim is to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all once more what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”

“But right now, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
