NBA game action

Miami scored eighty-six first-half points against the Memphis Grizzlies

Miami Heat earned a overwhelming 146-114 victory over the Grizzlies in their initial NBA match since guard Rozier was arrested for suspected unlawful sports betting.

Portland Trail Blazers coach Billups was also detained as part of a broad FBI probe into illegal gambling. Both men contest the claims.

But, the Heat were not distracted as they put up eighty-six first-half points to lead Memphis by thirty-nine at halftime, the biggest half-time advantage in the team's 37-year history.

Bam Adebayo top-scored with twenty-four scores and later stated Terry had the support of the team.

"We stand behind him. Complete backing," Adebayo said. "We are with him all the way. He's like family ultimately."

Miami head coach Erik Spoelstra commented: "Rozier is somebody who is important to all of us. He has made a real positive impact on our team.

"Our thoughts are with him and support for him as he goes through this."

Portland additionally won their initial match since the detentions, with Brazilian Tiago Splitter stepping in as temporary head coach in Chauncey's absence and leading the squad to a convincing 139-119 victory over the Warriors.

"Everyone experienced positive times with Chauncey and how he coached," Tiago said. "Our thoughts are with him and his family but we have a job to do."

League Commissioner Adam Silver 'Upset' over Arrests

Addressing the detentions for the first time, NBA commissioner Adam Silver stated he was "very upset" by the incidents of the past few days.

"There's nothing more important to the NBA and its fans than the fairness of the game," he told a broadcaster. "And so I felt uneasy. It was disturbing."

Silver further mentioned an league probe into Rozier's actions in March 2023, when there was "aberrational betting" in a match he played for the Charlotte Hornets against the New Orleans Pelicans, found nothing untoward.

"It was brought to our attention by the regulators and the gambling firms," he continued.

"We investigated that situation and were very transparent about it. Although there was the unusual wagering, we, honestly, found no evidence.

"Federal authorities has subpoena power... [it] can threaten to put people in jail, can do all kinds of things that the NBA can't do.

"Therefore, we've been working with them from that point. And, of course, what they revealed recently was an charge.

"Moreover 30 months after, he still hasn't been convicted of anything, in fairness to Rozier.

"Obviously, it doesn't look good, but he's been put on administrative leave, and so it is a balance here between upholding rights and conducting an inquiry."
