Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Munich was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be building positive momentum.

Their recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
